When you have arthritis, your body is in an inflammatory state. While there is no one cause of arthritis, some potential causes may include: injury, abnormal metabolism, inheritance, infections and an over-active immune system.

Although there is no diet cure for arthritis either, certain foods have been shown to fight inflammation, strengthen bones and boost the immune system. Adding the following foods to your diet may help ease the symptoms of your arthritis.

If you are suffering specifically from Rheumatoid Arthritis, it is time to fuel up onfish. Certain types of fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel and herring, have tons of inflammation-fighting omega-3 fatty acids. A serving of at least 3-4 ounces, twice a week should do the job.

Not a fan of fish but still want the inflammation busting benefits of omega-3 fatty acids? Try heart-healthy soybeans. They are low in fat, high in protein, fiber and ease the pain for Rheumatoid Arthritis as well. 

You can bet on broccoli for being rich in vitamin K, C and a compound called sulforaphane, which researchers have found could help prevent or slow the progression of osteoarthritis. 

Studies have also shown that individuals who regularly consume foods from the allium family such as garlic, onions and leeks, have shown fewer signs of early osteoarthritis. With that in mind, don’t forget to grab the garlic while cooking!

Lastly, opt for oils that are loaded with heart-healthy fats such as oleocanthal, which has similar properties to non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs. Avocado and safflower oils are also shown to have cholesterol-lowering properties, while walnut oil has 10 times the omega-3s that olive oil has.
